The best safari company ever! We did 7 days across Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro and the Serengeti. The best trip of my life. 8 Days Tanzania Safari
Our guide Emmanuel was absolutely amazing. I felt he went above and beyond to make sure we saw every animal there was to see in Ngorongoro Carter and Lake Manyara National Park. Not only did we get to see the animals, we also so amazing flora, scenery and Emmanuel was full of knowledge about the area, people and animals. Overall our time in Tanzania was made exceptionally better because of the guides we had. Emmanuel was absolutely brilliant to make sure we had good viewing of all sights and animals. No task was to hard. He was friendly, polite, and I felt very safe in his company.

3 night private Masai Mara NP
We were met by Simon from Safari HQ upon arrival in Nairobi and taken to our hotel which was s great way to start our Kenyan experience. Early the next morning, we were collected by Steve our Safari driver in our Safari vehicle for the long drive to the Zebra Valley Mara Lodge located adjacent to the Masai Mara National Game Reserve. Over the next 3 days, we enjoyed a series of fantastic early morning and late afternoon game Safari drives. Steve our driver was exceptional. Being an ex park ranger, his knowledge of the game reserve, the flora and fauna was fantastic. Given the condition of the roads, Steve was never in a rush and always allowed plenty of time to get us some great opportunities to view the amazing wildlife in the Mara reserve. We were extremely privileged that Steve manage to find great sighting / viewings of Elephants, Hippos, Giraffes, Ostriches, Lions, Cheetahs, numerous types of antelopes, Nile crocodiles, Wilderbeast, Zebras – the list goes on. Highlights included lunch under an Umbrella Acacia tree inside the game park. Given were on a 4 person private game Safari, Safari HQ and our Driver Steve were fantastic and the experience provided certainly exceeded our expectations.

7 Day Tanzania Safari
We spent three days in the Ngorongoro conservation area, three days in the Serengeti National Park and one day in the Lake Manyara National Park. We did our safari with Safari HQ. Our guide Emmanuel, was amazing. Not only was he a skilled Driver over the rugged and extremely challenging terrain, he knew exactly the right spots and angles to enable us to get the most spectacular photos. We saw the big five and much, much more many times over. I can only say it was a totally immersive and life changing experience. I would recommend Safari HQ and Emanuel in particular, to anyone wishing to undertake a Safari in Africa.

Gorilla Trekking FAQs

Practical answers about Uganda and Rwanda gorilla permits, costs, minimum age, trekking difficulty and combining gorillas with a Tanzania safari.

Uganda: A standard gorilla permit currently costs USD 800 per foreign non-resident. A private three- or four-day Uganda gorilla safari generally starts from approximately USD 2,000–4,000 per person sharing, including the permit, transport, accommodation and guiding. The longer Gorilla Habituation Experience requires a higher-priced permit.

Rwanda: A gorilla trekking permit currently costs USD 1,500 per person. A private three- or four-day Rwanda gorilla safari typically starts from approximately USD 3,000–6,000+ per person sharing, depending on the lodge and travel style.

Permit prices can change, so we confirm the current rate and availability before preparing your final quotation.

Uganda: Choose Uganda for the dense forests of Bwindi, several trekking sectors, generally lower permit costs and easy combinations with chimpanzees, Queen Elizabeth National Park or a longer wildlife safari. Road journeys can be longer, although scheduled and charter flights are available.

Rwanda: Choose Rwanda for convenient access from Kigali, Volcanoes National Park and an excellent selection of premium and luxury lodges. It works particularly well for travellers with limited time or those combining gorilla trekking with Tanzania.

Both countries offer exceptional mountain gorilla encounters—the better choice depends on your budget, available time and preferred travel style.

Gorilla trekking is available throughout the year in both Uganda and Rwanda. The drier periods from June to September and December to February generally provide firmer forest trails and easier trekking conditions.

March to May and October to November are wetter, making trails muddier and more demanding. However, these months bring lush forest scenery and often fewer visitors. Because mountain weather can change quickly, waterproof clothing and sturdy walking boots are essential in every season.

Uganda: Gorilla treks in Bwindi can last approximately two to seven hours and may involve steep, muddy and densely forested terrain.

Rwanda: Treks in Volcanoes National Park can range from around 30 minutes to four or more hours, often at a higher altitude.

The difficulty depends on the gorillas’ location, weather and the family assigned on the day. Moderate fitness is recommended, and hiring a porter provides valuable support while also benefiting the surrounding community.

The minimum age for gorilla trekking is 15 years in both Uganda and Rwanda. This rule protects younger travellers and reduces disturbance or health risks to the gorillas.

Families travelling with children under 15 can still enjoy a wider Uganda or Rwanda journey. We can recommend suitable wildlife activities, nature experiences and family arrangements for the non-trekking day while eligible family members complete the gorilla trek.

Yes. Gorilla trekking in Uganda or Rwanda combines exceptionally well with a Tanzania safari. A typical 10–15-day journey can include Bwindi or Volcanoes National Park followed by the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and, depending on the season, the Great Migration.

Regional flights through Entebbe or Kigali make the combination manageable. We coordinate the gorilla permits, flights, transfers, safari vehicle and accommodation as one seamless East African journey.
