The long rains transform the reserve into a lush landscape. Visitor numbers are lower, although some roads may become muddy and difficult to navigate.
JUN–OCT
Great Migration Season
Large wildebeest and zebra herds may enter the Masai Mara from July. River crossings, dry conditions and concentrated wildlife make this the busiest period.
NOV–DEC
Short Rains
Brief rains refresh the grasslands and bring excellent birdlife. Wildlife remains abundant, while visitor numbers are generally lower than during migration season.
